The new year is only 8 days old, and all I seem to be doing is waiting....
Waiting for baby. David and I are having our first baby, due any day now. The 9th month of pregnancy is so crazy! I can picture our little angel perfectly comfortable and happy in my womb, as I suffer and grown with aches and pains as he/she grows each day. My belly is tight, my fingers don't bend, I huff and puff to get out of bed and up out of chairs, by lower back throbs, my backside is unrecognizable, and all I want to do is eat raspberry croissants, (which don't exactly help my backside). I know it will all be worth it when I finally have our beautiful bundle of joy in my arms, and I have actually loved being pregnant. I've heard that the uncomfortableness of the last month is natures way of mentally preparing you to push the baby out, and I'm starting to see some truth in that. I have no fear of pain at this point, and am actually looking forward to labor. Our nursery is ready and David and I have read every book on baby rearing, as well as watched every baby video on Netflix, so we are feeling pumped and primed to be parents...but the waiting game is killing us!
Waiting for the first quilts. My Mom loves to quilt, and she is a dynamo at it. If I've ever seen someone in the "flow state", it's my Mom when she quilts. She wakes up at 5:30 a.m., makes her coffee, and goes for it, stopping for the occasional food or exercise break. And her craftsmanship is amazing. She's a purist, using only a sharp pair of shears and a meter stick...no fancy quilting tools needed. She cuts perfectly straight lines, and sews together the patchwork with perfectly aligned seams. After putting the front and back sides together with batting in the middle, she hand quilts every inch with razor precision. Hand quilting makes such a difference from machine quilting in my opinion. Hand quilting gives that "homey" look that only a labor of love produces. Edu and I went to The Quilt Store here in Austin the day after Christmas to purchase materials for our first quilts that we will sell on Etsy. They were having a fantastic sale, so we decided to purchase enough material for 4 baby quilts. Now I am patiently waiting for Edu to put the quilts together, and then I will help her quilt quilt quilt! Stay tuned for the grand opening of our Etsy store in the weeks to come.
Waiting for my new camera. After years of satisfaction with our Canon Powershot, I finally decided to purchase my first digital SLR camera. I went with the Canon Rebel XSi. The UPS man is supposed to deliver it on Monday. I can't wait to dive deep into figuring out all the functions and capabilities! The primary impetus for the purchase was so that I could get good shots of our baby right from the get go. One of my favorite things that Edu did for my brother and I was to take fantastic photos of us growing up. I just love looking at pictures of us when we were babies, and I want to be able to do that for our little one too. Of course, I also want to get some good shots of Edu and I's quilts so I can market them well on Etsy and here on our blog.
So, I continue to wait. I have a feeling this is going to be one of those "when it rains it pours" situations...baby, quilts, and camera will all show up on the same day...and more than likely it will be the first day of the Spring semester (I'm a graduate student). Then I'll really have my hands full. Luckily, I'm the type of person who does well when there is more on my plate...especially when there's a raspberry croissant on the plate!
Stay tuned for pictures of baby and quilts taken with my new camera!
